Everydrop Filter 2 (EDR2RXD1) vs Filter 1: How to Tell Them Apart
Quick answer
Read the old filter. Filter 2 is everydrop's orange filter, part EDR2RXD1. [S1] Filter 1 is the purple one, EDR1RXD1. [S3] The quickest physical tell: Whirlpool's steps have you twist Filter 2 to lock it, while Filter 1 just slides in with the arrow up. [S4]
- Whirlpool's data sheet treats EDR2RXD1, EDR2RXD1B, WHR2RXD1, KAD2RXD1 and EDR2RXD1R as the same replacement filter. [S2] PartSelect lists W10413645A among the older numbers EDR2RXD1 replaces. [S7]
- Rated for 200 gallons. Change it at least every 6 months. [S2]
- Whirlpool says it's tested and certified by NSF against NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 and CSA B483.1. [S2] We haven't confirmed that in NSF's database yet.
- Some fridges can take either. The WRS325SDHZ manual says Style 1 systems take EDR1RXD1 and Style 2 systems take EDR2RXD1. [S6]

Part numbers that are the same as EDR2RXD1
If your old filter shows one of these numbers, EDR2RXD1 is the current replacement.

| EDR2RXD1B, WHR2RXD1, KAD2RXD1, EDR2RXD1R | Listed as replacement filters on the same Whirlpool data sheet | [S2] |

Fridge models we've seen matched to EDR2RXD1
We only list a model when a manufacturer document or a named parts retailer ties it to this filter. Check your full model number against the source.
| Model | What the source says | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| Whirlpool WRS325SDHZ | Depends. Water Filtration System Style 1 takes EDR1RXD1; Style 2 takes EDR2RXD1 [S6] | Owner's manual |
| WRF767SDEM01 | PartSelect says EDR2RXD1 is the most recent substitution for this unit's filter [S7] | Retailer Q&A |
| WRX988S1BM03 | PartSelect says this model shows one water filter, EDR2RXD1 [S7] | Retailer Q&A |
Not every Whirlpool French door uses Filter 2. On the same PartSelect page, its expert pointed a WRF993FIFM00 owner to EDR5RXD1, a filter behind the base grille. [S7]
Certified alternatives
Here's what the genuine filter claims. We looked for a cheaper Filter 2 replacement on Waterdrop's site and didn't find one listed, so there's no third-party pick on this page yet.
| Filter | What the seller claims | Our NSF check |
|---|---|---|
| everydrop EDR2RXD1 (genuine) | Tested and certified by NSF International against NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 and CSA B483.1; lead reduction >99.7% in the data sheet; 200 gallons [S2] | Pending: NSF site unreachable 2026-10-24 |
The 10-second check
- Look at the filter you're taking out. If it says EDR2RXD1 or one of the numbers above, or it's orange, you need Filter 2. [S1] [S2] If it's purple or says EDR1RXD1, you need Filter 1. [S3]
- No label? Think about how the old one came out. Whirlpool's Filter 2 steps have you angle it down and turn it left. Filter 1 just pulls out after you lift the door. [S4]
- Filter in the base grille? Whirlpool lists the base grille as a Filter 1 location, not a Filter 2 one. [S4] Some fridges use other everydrop filters there. [S7]
How to change Filter 2
Whirlpool's steps, in short: [S4]
- Open the filter door in the upper right-hand corner inside the fridge.
- Pull the old filter so it angles down, turn it to the left and pull it out.
- Take the protective covers off the new filter's O-rings, and make sure the O-rings stay in place.
- Insert it with the arrow pointing up. As you push in, it starts to rotate. Turn it clockwise until it locks.
- Snap the door shut and flush the water system. Whirlpool's filter guide says four gallons. [S4]
The French door manual we read adds that if the filter isn't locked into the housing, water won't flow from the dispenser. [S5]
Why the WRS325SDHZ trips people up
This one model line lists both filters: Style 1 systems take EDR1RXD1, and Style 2 systems take EDR2RXD1. [S6] So "my fridge is a WRS325SDHZ" isn't enough. Match the number on your old filter.

FAQ
Can I use Filter 1 instead of Filter 2?
Don't count on it. Whirlpool gives different removal and install steps for the two: Filter 2 twists to lock and Filter 1 slides in. [S4] Even the WRS325SDHZ manual assigns EDR1RXD1 to Style 1 systems and EDR2RXD1 to Style 2. [S6] Buy the number printed on your old filter.
Is W10413645A the same as EDR2RXD1?
PartSelect lists W10413645A and W10413645 among the part numbers EDR2RXD1 replaces. [S7]
Are EDR2RXD1 and EDR2RXD1B the same filter?
Whirlpool's Filter 2 data sheet lists EDR2RXD1, EDR2RXD1B, WHR2RXD1, KAD2RXD1 and EDR2RXD1R as replacement filters for the same system. [S2] One Whirlpool Use & Care Guide says to order EDR2RXD1 in the U.S. and EDR2RXD1B in Canada. [S5]
Where is Filter 2 in my fridge?
Whirlpool's guide says Filter 2 is behind a cover in the upper right-hand corner inside the refrigerator. [S4] One Whirlpool French door manual puts it on the right-hand side of the refrigerator ceiling, behind a door you push up to release. [S5]
How much water should I flush after changing Filter 2?
Whirlpool's filter guide says four gallons. [S4] The French door Use & Care Guide we read says 3 gallons, dispensed 5 seconds on and 5 seconds off. [S5] Follow your own manual if it differs.
How often should I change EDR2RXD1?
Whirlpool's data sheet says to change the cartridge at least every 6 months. It's rated for 200 gallons. [S2]
What we could not verify
- NSF database confirmation for EDR2RXD1 (info.nsf.org didn't respond to our checker on 2026-10-24). We'll update this page when we can confirm it.
- A third-party Filter 2 replacement. When we checked Waterdrop's site on 2026-10-24, its everydrop collection listed only a Filter 1 replacement, and a search for EDR2RXD1 returned only a how-to article. So there's no Waterdrop pick on this page.
- How to tell Style 1 from Style 2 on a WRS325SDHZ without pulling the filter. The manual only names the two part numbers. [S6]
- What "without PID" means. Whirlpool's data sheet lists system W11602799 at 100 gallons "without PID" and P9WB2L at 200 gallons "with PID", but doesn't explain the term. [S2]
- A complete model list. The models above come from one owner's manual and PartSelect's Q&A. Use your fridge's manual or everydrop's filter finder to double-check.
