Whirlpool WRS325SDHZ water filter: EDR1RXD1 or EDR2RXD1?

Quick answer

It depends on your fridge's filtration system. The WRS325SDHZ manual says Style 1 systems take EDR1RXD1 (Filter 1) and Style 2 systems take EDR2RXD1 (Filter 2). [S1] Buy the number printed on the filter you're taking out.

When to change it

The manual says to replace the filter when the water filter status on the control panel changes to RED. [S1] Its data sheet gives a rated service capacity of 200 gallons. [S1]

How to change it on the WRS325SDHZ

  1. Read the part number on your old filter. That tells you Style 1 (EDR1RXD1) or Style 2 (EDR2RXD1). [S1]
  2. The manual's door-removal steps mention a water filter door at the base grille that opens when you pull it toward you. [S1]
  3. After changing the filter, flush the water system. The manual points to the "Water and Ice Dispensers" section of the User Guide for the steps. [S1]

Slow dispenser? The manual's pressure check: with the water filter removed, 1 cup (237 mL) should dispense in 8 seconds or less. If it takes longer, the water pressure is below what the fridge needs. [S1]

On a reverse osmosis supply, the manual says a fridge water filter can lower pressure further and suggests removing the filter. [S1]

What we could not verify

  • How to tell Style 1 from Style 2 without pulling the old filter. The manual only gives the two part numbers.
  • Whether both filter styles sit behind the base grille door. We only found that door in the door-removal steps.
