Whirlpool EDR4RXD1 (Filter 4): Part Numbers, Bypass Cap, and How to Change It
Quick answer
EDR4RXD1 is everydrop's green "Filter 4" for Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir fridges. [S1] Whirlpool's data sheet lists EDR4RXD1B, WHR4RXD1 and KAD4RXD1 as replacement filters for the same system. [S3] Whirlpool's own store sells it as WHR4RXD1 or EDR4RXD1. [S2]
- Change it at least every 6 months. The data sheet rates it at 200 gallons with PID and 100 gallons without. [S3]
- Whirlpool says it's tested and certified by NSF against NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 and CSA B483.1. [S3] We haven't confirmed that in NSF's database yet.
- Want to run without a filter? Whirlpool says fridges that use EDR4RXD1 need the bypass cap installed, or the dispenser won't give water. [S2]
- The Waterdrop replacement (WDP-F07) was sold out when we checked. [S6]

How to change Filter 4
From the Filter 4 installation instructions. [S4]
- Open the filter door in the right side of the refrigerator ceiling by pressing the tab on the cover.
- First install: remove the blue bypass cap and keep it. Replacing a filter: turn the old one counterclockwise until it releases. Some water may spill.
- Take the sealing label off the end of the new filter, insert it into the filter head and turn it clockwise until it stops.
- Lift the filter into the compartment and close the door.
- Run 4 gallons of water through the dispenser, about 5 minutes, until it runs steady.
The bypass cap
Whirlpool describes bypass mode as running the fridge with the filter removed, but fridges that use EDR4RXD1 need the bypass cap. Without a cap or a filter, the dispenser won't give water. [S2] Keep the blue cap you removed on first install. [S4]

FAQ
Is WHR4RXD1 the same as EDR4RXD1?
Whirlpool's Filter 4 data sheet lists EDR4RXD1B, WHR4RXD1 and KAD4RXD1 as replacement filters for the same system, and says to use EDR4RXD1/EDR4RXD1B. [S3] Whirlpool's store sells both WHR4RXD1 and EDR4RXD1 as Filter 4. [S2]
Can I run my fridge without the EDR4RXD1?
Only with the bypass cap. Whirlpool says fridges that use EDR4RXD1 must have a cap or a filter installed for the dispenser to give water. [S2]
Where is the bypass cap?
The installation instructions say to remove the blue bypass cap on first install and keep it for later use. [S4] If you've lost it, contact everydrop or Whirlpool for the right part.
Where is Filter 4 in the fridge?
Behind a door in the right side of the refrigerator ceiling. [S4]
How often should I change EDR4RXD1?
At least every 6 months, according to Whirlpool's data sheet. [S3] Whirlpool also says to replace it when the indicator light comes on. [S2]
Does EDR4RXD1 replace UKF8001?
For at least one model, yes. Sears PartsDirect shows the Maytag MFI2266AEU10's UKF8001AXX filter as replaced by EDR4RXD1. [S5]
What we could not verify
- The bypass cap's part number. We saw W11395888 in search results but not on a page we could read, so we've left it out.
- What "PID" means on the data sheet's capacity line. Whirlpool doesn't define it there.
- NSF database confirmation for EDR4RXD1 or Waterdrop's EFF-6009AS (info.nsf.org unreachable on 2026-10-24).
- A full model list. Everydrop's filter finder didn't return results to our checker, so only one model is listed.
